Perched on Fifth Avenue and Central Park South, The Plaza Hotel NYC opened its doors in 1907. With this NYC icon offering so much to experience it’s a “must-do” for your New York City weekend break itinerary. The Plaza is well-known as a celebrity hangout and a venue for important business and political meetings. It has been said, “Nothing unimportant ever happens at The Plaza.” Hollywood A-listers like Liza Minnelli, Lina Horne, and Andy Williams have frequented this elite hotel. In 1958, Miles Davis recorded an album inside the famous landmark and The Plaza was the hotel choice for the Beatles on their first American visit. It has been the backdrop for many Hollywood films, most notably Home Alone 2, Funny Girl, The Way We Were, Scent of a Woman, and Sleepless in Seattle.
The Eloise Experience
The Plaza was home to the famous fictional character, Eloise. The beloved children’s book, Eloise: A Book for Precocious Grown-ups by Kay Thompson, was published in 1955. A portrait of Eloise hangs in the hotel’s Palm Court but it’s not the original. The original was stolen and to this day has never been recovered.
Children can have their very own “Eloise at the Plaza Experience” by booking the Eloise Suite at The Plaza Hotel NYC. Exquisitely decorated in Eloise’s famous pink and black decor, young Eloise fans are sure to have an unforgettable experience. The hotel offers many other Eloise themed attractions to enjoy. Young visitors can delight in an Eloise Afternoon Tea, visit the Eloise gift Shop or book one of the Eloise events held at the hotel throughout the year.
